Modern finishes have been kept out of Fortunago: stone walls, porphyry paving and balconies spilling with flowers, without roller shutters or aluminium gates. The village stands on the hills between the Coppa and Ardivestra valleys in the Oltrepò Pavese, and its weekend market sells organic salumi, wines and honey from local farms. In late July the Sagra della Schita celebrates its own little flatbread.
