Mondolfo
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Streets fan out down the southern slope of Mondolfo's hill, inside two rings of walls that once guarded the mouth of the Cesano against raiders from the sea. From the belvedere at 144 metres the Adriatic is only two kilometres away, and the civic museum keeps a Picene stele that locals used as a seat for decades before its importance was recognised.
