Montagnana
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
A two-kilometre ring of 14th-century walls, crenellated and studded with 24 towers, still encloses Montagnana, built by the Carraresi of Padua as a frontier stronghold against Verona. A wide band of grass replaces the old moat, setting the walls apart from the modern town, while inside the cathedral holds a Transfiguration by Paolo Veronese.
