Orvinio
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Until 1863 this Sabine hill village bore the grim name of Canemorto, before reviving that of ancient Orvinium. At 840 metres it is the highest settlement in the Monti Lucretili park, and its crenellated Malvezzi-Campeggi castle, with a round corner keep, still dominates the centre, entered through a great arch. The local painter Vincenzo Manenti decorated the church of Santa Maria dei Raccomandati and is buried there.
