Vico del Gargano
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Nicknamed the “Village of Love”, with St Valentine as patron, Vico climbs a hill where the houses of the Civita and Casale quarters crowd around the castle and mother church. Its land runs from the beech and fir woods of the Foresta Umbra down to the beaches of San Menaio and Calenella, past terraced citrus groves that made the town's fortune in the 19th century.
Highlights
- Beech and fir woods of the Foresta Umbra, mostly within Vico's territory (IT)
- Gargano oranges and Femminiello lemons, both protected PDO citrus
- The citrus carnival in February or March
- Santa Maria degli Angeli convent, with a 17th-century Venetian crucifix and an ancient oak
- The square-plan castle and walls above the Civita quarter
