Miranda del Castañar
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
Few villages keep their medieval wall whole; Miranda del Castañar still has its full circuit, with a gate facing each point of the compass. The village runs along a ridge in the Sierra de Francia, crowned by the castle of the Zúñiga counts, whose former inner ward is now a square bullring. Beneath houses built against the wall runs the Ronda Nocturna, once walked by the night watch.
