Ponte Maceira

Pilgrims walking from Santiago de Compostela to Finisterre cross the river Tambre here on a medieval bridge of five main arches, raised on the piers of an earlier Roman one. Around it cluster an old mill, a weir, an 18th-century chapel and a later manor house. Legend says the bridge collapsed beneath Roman soldiers chasing the disciples of Saint James, letting them escape.
