San Martín de Trevejo
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
Villagers here still speak mañegu, their own variety of the Fala language, a legacy of medieval settlers from León and Galicia. At the foot of Mount Jálama near the Portuguese border, houses of stone, timber and adobe line streets where a stream of water runs in a channel all year. The parish church keeps three panels by the 16th-century painter Luis de Morales.
