Tejeda
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
Unamuno called the landscape around Tejeda a 'petrified storm': a vast volcanic caldera in the heart of Gran Canaria, cut by steep ravines. The village sits at 1,050 metres beneath two great rocks, Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga, the latter once a granary-fortress and one of the last places to resist the island's conquest. In the village are four small museums and a sweet shop known for almond pastries.
