Baume-les-Messieurs
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Tradition credits Saint Columbanus with founding the abbey around which Baume-les-Messieurs grew, at the end of a blind valley ringed by limestone cliffs. This reculée is one of the best known in the Jura, and the Dard stream tumbles down it over tufa steps before joining the Seille. Guided visits take in the old abbey and the Baume caves at the head of the valley.
