Conques
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Between 864 and 875 a monk from Conques stole the relics of Sainte Foy from Agen, and the pilgrims who followed made this remote valley famous. Schist houses roofed with stone slabs climb the sunny side of a hollow where the Dourdou and Ouche meet, all gathered around the abbey church of Sainte-Foy. Its Last Judgement tympanum and the gold reliquary statue in the treasury are the great sights.
