Saint-Jean-de-Côle
Member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
Ochre-toned houses, some half-timbered, gather round a square overlooked by the Château de la Marthonie in Saint-Jean-de-Côle, a Périgord village that grew where the road could easily cross the Côle. Beside the castle stand a Romanesque church of Saint John the Baptist and a former priory. Each 8 May a flower fair fills the village, and the Flow Vélo cycle route passes through on an old railway line.
