Aieta
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Its name comes from the Greek for eagle, and the village sits at 524 metres on a ridge between the Tortora valley and an inland basin, within the Pollino National Park. The Renaissance Palazzo Martirano-Spinelli, rare in Calabria, presides over the old centre, and although the sea is close, the food and customs here belong to the mountains.
