Atzara
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Early 20th-century painters from Spain and Sardinia came to Atzara drawn by its brightly coloured women's costume and its unique headdress, the tiaggiòla, and their work now fills a modern art museum in the centre. The village lies at 543 metres in the Mandrolisai, on the western side of the Gennargentu, among wooded hills and vineyards. Granite houses and churches line its old districts.
