Castelnuovo di Porto

The Colonna family lost and regained this castle again and again in their quarrels with the popes. Their Rocca, a fortress turned Renaissance palace, crowns a tufa spur at the top of the old village, and a plaque recalls Charles III of Bourbon staying there on his way to take Naples. Around it, tufa hills cut by narrow ravines produce Bianco Capena wine and Soratte olive oil.
