Merchants coming up from Brescia, Bergamo and Lake Garda once passed through Ossana on their way into Trentino and Tyrol, watched over by the Castello di San Michele. The castle still crowns an otherwise inaccessible rock in the upper Val di Sole, its 25-metre keep restored and open for guided visits. Part of the property once belonged to the Nobel peace laureate Bertha von Suttner.
