Presicce – Acquarica
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Known as the town of hypogea, Presicce hides many underground olive presses, the trappeti, cut into the tufa when oil was the town's wealth and shipped as far as Naples and Spain. It lies in a well-watered hollow of lower Salento beneath the terraced Serra di Pozzomauro, and its old centre is built of 16th-century courtyard houses, each with a well and a stone washtub.
