Alpuente
Member of Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España
Around 1,000 metres up on Valencia's border with Teruel, this was the capital of its own Muslim taifa kingdom in the 11th century. Its castle once presided over the walled town, in a frontier land crossed by the old royal road to Aragon and Castile. Today the municipality is a rugged spread of ravines, mountains and scattered hamlets, and in 2018 it was named a Valencian Capital of Culture.
