Set on a rocky outcrop in the Sierra de Gúdar, Linares de Mora still follows the plan of a walled late-medieval town: four stepped, parallel streets of whitewashed houses with red tile roofs, folded into an L. The ruins of a 13th-century castle crown the rock, and below them rises a Baroque church with a free-standing bell tower. The village is also known for its hams.

Highlights

  • Iglesia de la Inmaculada (1785–1795), designed by Martín de la Aldehuela
  • Three surviving wall gates: Portal de Abajo, Portal de Enmedio and Portal Alto
  • Barrio del Hospital, the most rural quarter, around the Santa Lucía chapel
  • El Escobón, a huge centuries-old pine beside the old Resurrección mine
  • Locally cured hams
