Morimondo
Member of I Borghi più belli d'Italia
Cistercian monks from Morimond, near Dijon, arrived here in 1134, drained the marshy land along the Ticino and gave both their abbey and the village its name. The brick abbey church, built between 1182 and 1296, is deliberately irregular, with off-centre windows and every capital different. Around it, fields and regular rows of poplars slope gently towards the river.
