Cloisters, river bends and a volcanic fortress

Start at Lavaudieu, where the abbey of Saint-André has an intact Romanesque cloister. Look in on the refectory and its fresco in Byzantine style, then stretch your legs on the GR 300, which passes through the village. Next, Lavoûte-Chilhac.

Day 2
The young Loire, Stevenson's trail and the Truyère

Day 4
An abbey, a volcanic peak and golden stone

Day 5
A last Bourbon village before Clermont-Ferrand
